Clondalkin Specialist Packaging Division Expands in Russia
Clondalkin Pharma & Healthcare, a unit of the Specialist Packaging Division of Clondalkin Group, has established sales and marketing offices in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The company has also signed a long-term manufacturing and marketing agreement with Saint Petersburg-based packaging producer Industry of Colour (Incol). Incol will support Clondalkin with local production and finishing activities.
Chesapeake Installs New Four-Color Press
Paperboard packaging supplier Chesapeake Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Packaging has installed a new Alprinta 52 web offset press at its Hicksville, NY, facility. The four–color press, which can run materials up to 20.5 in. wide and 40 in. long, will be used to print patient-information leaflets for the healthcare market. It also features UV curing and a non-stop rewinding unit for re-insertion, giving Chesapeake the capacities to run up to 8 colors.
Vijuk Equipment Purchased by GUK
Vijuk Equipment Inc., a provider of insert/outsert leaflet folding equipment for the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and small-items packaging markets, has been purchased by GUK–Falzmaschinen of Wellendingen, Germany. The purchase took effect April 1, 2012.
Robinson Printing Helps Medical Device Maker Fit in Extra Languages
“We needed to increase the number of languages to address EU regulatory requirements,” explains Erin Thompson, associate product manager, IVUS Imaging, for Volcano Corp. “We had to ensure that the new IFUs did not exceed the original weight because any changes could affect the overall package weight, which would require package revalidation. We also weren’t changing the IFU content other than having it translated into different languages.”
Chesapeake Acquired by The Carlyle Group
The Carlyle Group has acquired global paper-based packaging supplier Chesapeake from Irving Place Capital and funds managed by Oaktree Capital Management, it was reported in a statement. Chesapeake manufactures leaflets, labels, and cartons, primarily for the pharmaceutical, confectionery, and premium drinks industries. With headquarters in Nottingham, UK, the company employs nearly 5000 at 38 facilities in nine countries and had revenues of €580m in 2012.

These 21 suppliers were chosen from more than 23,000 globally, Abbott reports in a press release on its Web site.
